York Township Department of Public Works maintains public infrastructure while providing various
services to the approximate 26,000 residents. Mr. Scott Depoe, Director of Public Works of York
Township, was introduced to the SwapLoader hook lift concept by SwapLoader distributor Bob Gates
of Lancaster Truck Body in Lancaster, PA.
Once introduced to the SwapLoader concept there was no turning back. Mr. DePoe says that the
SwapLoader model SL-330 has “allowed us to utilize one cab and chassis while doing the work of
three vehicles”. York Twp. purchased a dual steer Freightliner equipped truck with an aluminum
dump body and a leaf vacuum (ODB) for their day to day operations. They started off using the
SwapLoader system primarily in the fall for collecting leaves curbside from Twp. residents but
they quickly saw the versatility and now use it in their winter maintenance of spreading deicing
material and use in general dump truck work as well.
The purchase of the SwapLoader hoist, chassis and leaf collection equipment was made possible through
the Department of Environmental Recycling Grant. Maximizing the truck fleet utilization is very important
for York Township. Mr. DePoe says “a common dump truck has its limitations. With the SwapLoader hook lift
hoist it is more versatile than just a dump truck.”
Versatility of the SwapLoader system was a key element in their decision to purchase but the #1
reason why they would recommend the SwapLoader to other users in the industry would be the
“ease of operation”. Mr. DePoe is extremely satisfied with the SwapLoader hoist “because it has
performed flawlessly under all operating situations.”
